Discussion Group

Every year in France, several hundred children are abducted by one of their parents. These disappearances, too often underestimated, create a rupture and cause significant trauma for both the child and the parent they have been separated from. Due to the lack of support systems for these situations with far-reaching consequences, the team at 116 000 Missing Children offers support groups dedicated to assisting and supporting parents who are victims of child abduction.

Discussion Group

What is it?

This is a place for exchange, listening, and free expression, open to any parent who wishes to meet others in a similar situation to discuss their feelings, find support, or reflect on the return of their child(ren). The atmosphere created encourages and fosters a peaceful solidarity among the participants.

This is also a space where everyone can be authentic, without fear of being judged. It allows each individual to be stimulated by the dynamics generated by the group and thus become an active participant in their own change.

These parent support groups are led by a psychologist, a lawyer, and a specialized educator, to enable the sharing, confrontation, and interaction of the different experiences, feelings, and concerns that each parent may have regarding the separation from their child(ren). This time may also provide an opportunity to address questions related to procedures.

Why

take part?

This space allows these parents to:

  • Feel less alone and be listened to by a peer group
  • Find new resources through sharing similar experiences
  • Be informed and sensitized about the child’s return and the consequences that this event can cause

Practical information

Support groups for parents who are victims of their child(ren) being displaced are held once a month in three departments in Île-de-France:

  • in Yvelines (78)
  • in Hauts-de-Seine (92) via video conference or in person depending on the requests of the formed groups
  • in Paris (75), only in person.

This is an open group for anyone who feels the need to reflect on the emotional impact of parental abduction.

You can contact 01 83 01 00 77 for more information about the support groups or to refer parents to this service. Whether you are a professional or a parent, we respond to all requests made to us.
