43 870 disappearances of minors reported in France in 2021

In 2021, 43 870 disappearances of minors have been reported in France to the police forces and the gendarmerie according to the 116 000 Missing Children. This european emergency number, open 24h/24 and 7d/7, accompanies each year, hundreds of families of victims of disappearance of a child by providing them with psychological support, social, educational and legal.

Among the 43 870 minors of record in the File of Wanted Persons (RPF), the Ministry of the Interior are :

- 545 minors was removed or diverted. This figure is minimized by the fact that many parents affected by parental child abduction fail to file the complaint and, therefore, to register their children with the RPF.

- 922 minors, whose disappearance is found to be disturbing. In most cases, it is fugues that last in time and in which all contact was broken.

- 42 151 minors reported to have fled.
